In Eastern Europe People were “highly advised” not to celebrate christmas during communistic times. But the leaders could not keep controle over the crowds and they celebrated in secret at home. From the 1930-ies on christmascelebration  was back allowed but under the name of newyear celebration and the masses struck back. For the eastern european people christmas is the most important feast of the year.

Their “father Christmas” is called “Ded Moroz” also refered to as father time who dies at midnight december 31/12. He is accompanied by “Snegurochka” his granddaugther.  All little girls want to get dressed up as Snegurochka and in many towns, villages there are contest who is the most beautiful of all. To me all little girls are beautiful and they are all winners.
