Why on earth do people put a gurk in their christmas tree ? Well as the story goes :
Before 1900 when christmastrees were filled with eatable presents like nuts (sometimes painted in gold), oranges, apples, cookies…….
the childeren of the family were allowed to pillage the christmas tree on christmas day.
The child (often helped by any elder or grandparent) that found the “gurk” was allowed an extra treat from the tree.
- Wether this is a true story or a commercial invention is lost in history, I for one thing like the story.
